This month
Elijah turns 3!
we took the week
to play...
here
and there...
SO
come play.
"Spring is here," said the Bumblebee
"How do you know?" said the Old Oak Tree
"I spy yellow daffodills [or crocuses, as the case may be]...
Dancing with the fairies on the windy hill."
[said the Bumblebee]
At
l-o-n-g
last,
we can go outside without a coat,
plant some crocuses without a chill,
take a bike ride
to Parc de Sceaux.
and so...
At
l-o-n-g
last,
we did!
Leading up to his 3rd birthday,
Goggles
have been his favorite toy of choice.
At first they went everywhere...
the store
the neighbors house
the park
and then it was...
to church
and eventually
...to bed!
While on one hand he is
contemplative
and a doer of
what all newly turned 3 year olds do:
picking up precious stones
from even stone buried-in-cement pathways
"...they MUST come out somehow!"
...to begging for someone to kick the ball with him!
And so of course,
we do!
Who wouldn't?
...and then it's time for a rest,
but only on Mummy, of course.

Hi! I am a random viewer searching for the rhythm to the "Bumblebee" song when I came across your blog. I would love to hear what your family has been up to, because I was surprised to see more and more similarities between us... I am currently involved in the Waldorf teacher training and searching for a place in Seattle-Tacoma-Eugene-Portland to complete several observations. I noticed your links to Eugene and Paris Waldorf schools... I love to travel and we always talk about taking the family and just go on a long journey!! My fiance is from Ireland, my daughter is three as well, and we are headed back to France as soon as we can. I would love to hear where you are from originally as well as what and how you are doing this excursion! I know it is just our fears stopping us... If you have some time I would love to hear how someone took the leap!

Thanks so much for your comment, great to hear from you! I'm a huge fan of waldorf education, and in fact did the first year of the teacher training program at the Eugene Waldorf School. I highly recommend it, as well as the school. We left in 2007, and were very sad to do so, but it was for a great adventure to Ireland, making our departure, after nearly 7 years there, bearable. I'm happy to discuss anything you'd like re EWS or pass on any contacts there, just let me know.
As to our path, I would agree that fear is our only barrier...for several years prior to leaving Eugene, it was just a matter of the right opportunity, being patient and then just taking the leap! Where in Ireland is your husband from? We chose to live in Blessington, in County Wicklow, while my husband commuted into Dublin for work where he had been consulting to a small high tech company in Dublin. When they got their full funding they moved us there full time. Again, a very grand adventure!
We initially moved to France for a 4 month immersion experience as we were going to put my eldest son in the French Intl school in Dublin once he reached the limit of the tiny waldorf school we were in (Kildare Steiner school, very sweet!), but after a few short months it was going so well we decided to extend for the next school year. In the end, my husband's work transitioned to just outside Paris, and we're now fully 'installed' as they say here, having now been here nearly 4 years. It's still crazy to us to think we've been here that long!
I'm so glad you wrote, thank you! I have actually been long intending to continue this blog, I actually have a tremendous amount I want to share, both with the idea of giving our vantage point of France, Steiner school, education in general, and just keeping in touch w family and friends.
